THRASHER MAGAZINE

This UI/UX rebrand was a project I developed as a sophomore at Virginia Tech, in response to a web design project that asked students to design and code a functional rebrand of an existing news outlet’s homepage, as well as one accompanied article page. As a lifetime-long skateboarder, I took this opportunity to work around a unique industry and publication, and chose to rebrand Thrasher Magazine—one of skateboarding’s most revered print publications. While their print publication has a powerful visual appeal and historic recognition at the forefront of skateboarding news, their website in many ways lacked the same level of visual interest, and a convoluted site map proved difficult to traverse for nearly any user. After researching the brand further, I decided to produce a rebrand meant to embody the tactile sensations of skateboarding materials and antique skateboarding publications, as well as the grunge culture that often surrounds the sport itself, in the hopes of increasing overall interest and interactivity with the site, while simultaneously streamlining the usability of the site map.
